Otoscope

An otoscope is a medical instrument used to examine the ear. Specifically, it's used to:  

Visualize the ear canal and eardrum:

• It allows healthcare professionals to see inside the ear canal to check for any abnormalities.   
• This helps in assessing the health of the eardrum (tympanic membrane).   

• Diagnose ear conditions:
  • It aids in the diagnosis of various ear problems, such as:
    • Ear infections (otitis media, otitis externa)   
    • Earwax buildup (cerumen impaction)   
    • Foreign objects in the ear   
      Eardrum perforations   
• Essentially it is a tool that allows for visual inspection of the inner ear
