Mobile, but unsteady

The patient walks with support. Everything here is about preventing falls - and the bathroom is where falls happen. Wet floors, a low toilet, nothing to hold on to.

Package from KES 35,000 →
Worth knowing.

A raised toilet seat is the highest-value item at this level. Under KES 8,000, and it removes the deep squat that causes most home falls in recovering patients.

Recommended for Level 01

Home Care Starter

Everything above in one order - walking frame, raised toilet seat, shower chair, and the full monitoring set. Built for a patient who is mobile with support and recovering at home.

Most of the day in bed

Movable with help but not able to walk. Two things now matter that did not before: pressure relief, and toileting without a trip to the bathroom.

Package from KES 82,700 →
Do not skip this.

Pressure sores can begin forming within 2 to 4 hours of unrelieved pressure. The ripple mattress goes on top of the standard mattress and alternates pressure points automatically.

Care is continuous

The patient cannot reposition themselves. The list now includes clinical support - and equipment that protects whoever is doing the lifting.

Before you buy oxygen.

Oxygen is prescribed, not assumed. Many bedbound patients never need it. Confirm the requirement with the discharging team first - a concentrator is the largest single item in home care.

Buy in this order

This sequence protects your cash and stops you filling a room with equipment that never gets used.

First · before they come home
What prevents readmission

Bed, pressure-relieving mattress, waterproof cover, bed liners, and a commode or bed pan. These cover the two risks that send patients back to hospital - pressure sores and falls.

Second · within week one
What makes care possible

Wheelchair or transfer equipment, over-bed table, bathroom safety items, and the first month of consumables.

Third · once the need is proven
What you cannot predict yet

Specialised seating, hoist, oxygen, therapy equipment. Wait until the patient's trajectory is clear - many families find after a fortnight that they need something different.

The mistake we see most

Budget for the month, not the day

Equipment you buy once. Bed liners, gloves, diapers and gauze you buy every month, for as long as care continues. Buying supplies in bulk is cheaper than buying them in a hurry.

70% Equipment bought once
30% Supplies, first three months

A working split for a first home care budget.

Questions families ask

Before you order

How much does it cost to set up home care in Kenya?

It depends on the care level. An assisted setup for a mobile patient starts at KES 35,000. A transitional setup including a hospital bed starts at KES 82,700. Full dependency care starts at KES 122,200, rising to KES 192,200 if an oxygen concentrator is required.

What is the difference between a single and double crank bed?

A single crank raises the head only. A double crank raises head and knees independently, which is more comfortable and stops the patient sliding down the bed. Both come complete with a standard mattress.

Do you assemble the bed?

In Nairobi and surrounding areas we offer assembly for a fee - tell us your location and we'll quote it.

Everywhere else, the beds arrive flat-packed and go together with basic tools in about 30 minutes. We send a step-by-step video with every delivery, and if you'd rather have someone talk you through it, message us and we'll do it live on a video call.

Do I really need a ripple mattress?

If the patient cannot reposition themselves, yes. Pressure sores can begin within 2 to 4 hours of unrelieved pressure. The ripple mattress goes on top of the standard bed mattress and alternates pressure points automatically.

What size mackintosh cover do I need?

A standard hospital bed takes 3x6. A home double bed usually takes 4x6. Sizes run up to 6x6. Measure the mattress before ordering.

Can I rent equipment instead of buying?

For care lasting more than three months, buying is almost always cheaper. Beds and wheelchairs also resell reasonably well in Kenya afterwards. Tell us how long care is expected to last and we will advise.

How quickly can you deliver?

Nairobi is usually same or next day for items in stock. We deliver countrywide - send us your location and we will confirm timing.
